“This was the second time that Richard G. helped us out with our plumbing and furnace checkup. Richard is a true professional, and we felt extremely comfortable with him in our home, and were happy with the transparent, clear advice he provided before starting any work. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Richard and his team at the Gentlemen Pros to any of my family or friends, as their service has consistently been friendly and reliable.” Taylor R
Heaters work hard during our cold winters, and many factors can contribute to boiler breakdowns:
– Hard water buildup from the minerals in Calgary’s water
– Frozen condensate lines in extreme cold
– High usage strain during deep freezes
– Delayed maintenance, especially after summer inactivityWe recommend annual servicing in the fall to help prevent sudden failures in January or February when repair times are longest and demand spikes.
If you notice that some of your radiators are cold at the top and warm at the bottom, there may be air trapped inside the system. Here’s a DIY approach you could try before our technician arrives:
1. Turn off your heat
2. Use a radiator key (or flat screwdriver) to open the valve
3. Hold a cloth under the valve—air will hiss out, then water will drip
4. Close the valve once water starts flowing
5. Turn the heat back on and check pressure levels
Note: Only attempt this if you are familiar with boiler radiators.
If your boiler pressure drops too low after trying this, or if the radiator never heats up after, make sure to give us a call. We’ll check the pump, valves, and pressure regulator to get everything reset.
To understand the “how” and the technical terms being tossed around, here are a few of the core components that we inspect and repair during a boiler service request:
Heat exchanger – where water is heated; can crack or corrode over time
Expansion tank – absorbs pressure fluctuations; failure can cause leaks
Circulator pump – moves water through your radiators
Zone valves – control which areas of your home get heat
Thermostat & controls – determine system behavior and heat schedules
If one of these parts fails, or even partially malfunctions, it can throw off your entire heating system, that’s why we check each one thoroughly during our diagnostic review.

Our boiler technicians are available for last minute appointments in most areas of Calgary, especially during cold-weather emergencies. Our Gentlemen Pro’s team arrives ready to troubleshoot, repair, and walk you through your options clearly, without the guesswork.
If your boiler is more than 15–20 years old and needing frequent repairs, replacement might be a smarter investment long-term. Call us to walk through what the steps would look like.
