Have one of our friendly and skilled Red Deer electricians expertly and safely install your ceiling fan.
Our Alberta winters are cold and our summers are hot. Not exactly a recipe for comfort. An expertly installed ceiling fan can increase your home’s comfort by keeping your rooms feeling cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. And they can also help you save money on your heating and cooling bills by helping your cooled and heated air circulate through the room better.
If you are contemplating installing a fan by yourself, keep this in mind. A ceiling fan is more cumbersome to install compared to a wall switch or outlet due to its weight and shape. Plus you are installing it on the ceiling which comes with its own set of issues.
Hire a professional to do it for you. Regardless of where you want the fan installed in the bedroom, living room, or outside on your patio, we can install it for you. It also doesn’t matter if there is existing wiring or not, we can do it. Plus we have all the tools and supplies to complete the job.
What will our professional electricians do?

Ceiling fans come in a lot of different styles and sizes.
So how do you choose the right ceiling fan for your room? You ask yourself some questions.
This is your first question because your answer will influence how you answer the remaining questions. The room you are putting the fan in will determine the size of the fan and the style of the fan you buy.
Make sure you are clear on the room you are installing it in. You don’t want to be disappointed when you fall in love with a ceiling fan only to find out it doesn’t come in the size you need.
The size of your room will determine the size of your ceiling fan. If you install a ceiling fan that is too small, it won’t circulate the air properly. If you install a fan that’s too big, it will overpower the room.
Energy Star recommends that a ceiling fan be mounted in the middle of the room and at least 18 inches from the walls and 7 feet from the floor. So you need to know the room’s dimensions.
Energy Star provides a table outlining the ceiling fan size needed based on a room’s square footage.
Do you need your ceiling fan to double as a room’s light fixture? If yes, then you’ll want a ceiling fan with lights. You will then need to decide the type of lightbulbs you want and if you want to be able to operate the fan separately from the lights.
Some fans let you operate the fan and lights independently from each other. Others require the fan and the lights to be on separate circuits to operate independent from each other.
Now the fun and pretty stuff. Do you want a modern-style fan or a more traditional-style fan? What colour do I want it to be? How many blades do I want it to have?
Energy Star recommends that a ceiling fan should be hung 8 to 10 feet off the floor for optimal airflow. The following are the most common types of mounts.
Standard mounts come with a 3 to 5-inch downrod. A downrod is the rod the ceiling fan hangs from.
In a room with high ceilings, you will want to get an extension downrod so the ceiling fan will hang lower into the room.
Tip: Make sure your extended downrod finish matches the finish of the ceiling fan. You’ll only be frustrated if your downrod has a silver finish and your ceiling fan has a bronze finish.
If you are installing your ceiling fan in a room with low ceilings, you need to use a flush mount model that hugs the ceiling.
They are also called low-profile mounts or ceiling hugger mounts.
Angled mounts are used in rooms with vaulted or angled ceilings.
You can operate your fan with a switch, a pull chain, a remote control, or a combination of the three. Think about how you use the room. For example, if you sit a lot in the room, you might want a remote control so you aren’t getting up a lot to turn the fan on or off.
Also, do you want to be able to change the speed and direction of the blades and control the brightness of the lights?
Maybe this should be the first question you answer, but it’s the least fun so we’ve put it last.
There are a multitude of fans to satisfy every room and budget. So, set yourself a budget before you go shopping so you aren’t tempted by a beautiful fan with all the bells and whistles.
