“We called and were addressed immediately (rather than waiting for a call back). They arrived quickly and were polite and professional. Not only did they do the job but went above and beyond to make sure all avenues were addressed before leaving. I would give a higher review if it were a possibility.” Tayra H

The Gentlemen Plumbers can maintain and fix your bathroom or kitchen plumbing.

how Does a Tankless Water Heater Work?

Unlike traditional tanks that store water and keep it hot around the clock, tankless water heaters heat  the water on demand. When you turn on a hot tap, cold water flows through a compact heat exchanger that warms it instantly. This reduces the time spent waiting for a tank to refill, plus then there is no energy wasted keeping 40+ gallons hot 24/7.

Gas vs Electric Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless units that are gas powered are more common because of their availability and lower operating costs. Whereas, Electric units are easier to install, but they need more power, so they are a better fit for lower-flow needs and add-on suits. It can be complicated to know which type of unit to choose, so we can give recommendations based on your home’s size, water usage habits, and existing system.

Pros & Cons of going tankless?

Pros:
  • Endless hot water
  • Compact, space-saving design
  • Long lifespan
  • No standby energy loss
  • Up to 30% more energy efficient than storage tanks
Cons:
  • Higher upfront installation cost
  • May require upgraded gas line or venting
  • Needs annual maintenance (especially in hard water zones)

DIY: Clean the Filter & Prevent Scale Buildup

Red Deer’s hard water can cause scale buildup in the heat exchanger over time. If you already own a tankless system, then descaling annually is one of the best ways to protect your unit.

One way to help prevent scale build up is to clean the cold water inlet filter – which is usually located right at where the unit connects to the water line. When you find it, turn off the power and water supply, unscrew the filter housing, rinse it under running water, and pop it back in. If you’re having trouble locating or fitting it back in, give us a call and we can come walk you through it!
